Dwarf Papillion

Rabbit Breed

Pros:

Small, Beautiful, Unique

Cons:

Hard to get markings just right

The Butterfly Rabbit

Did you know Papillion meant butterfly in French? The breed is called this because of the "butterfly" on their noses. They are basically miniature checkered giants with a few differences. The markings on these rabbits are amazing, and they look much different than most broken rabbits. Everything from where the dot on their cheek should be placed to how the stripe down their spine looks is in the Standard of Perfection. Every spot on these rabbits is judged on the show table. If you are looking for a challenge with beautiful results, this is your breed!

What To Look For

For Show: The purpose of this breed is for show, so could these be your next show rabbit? You are not likely to find another of this breed at a local show, so get ready to compete in Any Other Breed. Since their markings are so specific, there is so much that plays into the winning rabbit.  When looking for a show rabbit, first check for any general rabbit disqualifications, then check the breed-specific DQs that apply to Dwarf Papillions. Look very closely because there is a lot for this breed!

For Breeders: While (as with any dwarf rabbit) getting that first litter may be difficult, these rabbits are known to be great and sometimes protective mothers.

For Pets: Dwarf Papillions may not be as mellow as say a Holland Lop, but if you want a more active and curious rabbit, this breed is for you. Their unique markings make them beautiful pets to have around. If you just want a pet, we offer mis-marked or unshowable rabbits at a discounted price.
